About Me

Yakshagana Kalaranga (R) Udupi
Yakshagana is a unique traditional art of Karnataka, a popular theater aspecialy in Costal Karnataka, disseminating and transmitting the cultural values of indian life more than five centuries, It is a rare, harmonious and artistic combination of music, dance, costumes, extempore speech, classical discipline and flok liberty. Yakshagana Kalaranga, a regstered body, founded thirty six years ago, came in to existence with the sole purpose of preserving and perpetuating the traditional beauty and relevance of Yakshagana. Like many of the art form, Yakshagna is facing a crisis in this modern world of globalization and attack of electronic media of entertainment. Unless a multi-pronged preventive effort is made, the traditionally beautiful Yakshagana will soon be an extinct art form. Hence, recently Kalaranga has extended its activities even to the welfare of the artists, who are undoubtedly the most disorganized and neglected sector in the society.
